ART DECKO: on view in the CCBC Gallery April 3–29, 2018

Creature Comforts is proud to host an extraordinary exhibition of 9 large-scale paintings created for Art Decko: a public art project organized by the Athens Area Arts Council and the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission that promotes creativity in unexpected places.

Artists were tasked with creating an original design to be painted onto a 4x8 foot wood panel. The panels will be permanently displayed in the College Avenue parking deck downtown following the exhibition in the CCBC Gallery.

From over 100 submissions, the following nine local artists were selected for the project:

o    Ruth Allen
o    Ashley Anderson
o    Hannah Betzel
o    Jared Brown
o    Dorian Edwards
o    Will Eskridge
o    Jeremy Kiran Fernandes
o    Jeanne Whatley
o    Jacob Wenzka

Events involving the artworks:

Art Decko Showcase | Sunday, April 8, 1–6pm | An opening reception for the show featuring an artists market with original work for sale from the nine exhibiting artists and live music from Elf Power, Forbidden Waves, and Jeremy Kiran Fernandes.
    Both Fernandes and Forbidden Waves guitarist/vocalist Eskridge are featured visual artists in the show. Elf Power was a member of the Elephant Six arts collective in Athens along with the band Neutral Milk Hotel. Ashley Anderson’s Art Decko panel features elements from Neutral Milk Hotel’s music catalogue, an homage to this year’s 20th anniversary of the NMH album “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” (1988).

Also in April at CCBC: EARTH Party | Sunday, April 15, 1–6pm | A one-day-only outdoor pop-up exhibition of environmental artwork by 20+ local artists. Street Stix food truck will sell Greek-inspired eats outside, and the Louis Romano Trio will play in the Tasting Room. Come out and join us to kick off Earth Week, leading up to Earth Day on 4/22!
