Movement Love + Meet the Artist

To accompany the CCBC Gallery exhibition “organic/mechanic” (1/8/18–2/4/18), Creature Comforts presents a special Sunday celebrating art in many forms. This event is FREE, no pre-registration required.

11am–1pm: Movement Love with Maggie Benoit and Powerkompany
*Fresh squeezed juice available for purchase before the class

1–4pm: Meet the Artist featuring photographer Holly Roman and surgeon Chip Ogburn

**Tasting Room bar open to the general public 1–6pm.

Movement Love with Maggie Benoit and Powerkompany:

Movement Love is Benoit’s monthly yoga and art series hosted since December 2016 by the Atlanta Contemporary. In this special Athens iteration of the class, Athens based synth-pop duo Powerkompany will join Benoit to explore themes of healing and flow through movement and sound. The class will take inspiration from the exhibition on view, “organic/mechanic”, featuring cyanotypes of surgical x-rays.

Note: please bring your own yoga mat to the class, as none will be provided. The Tasting Room bar will be open for yoga participants before the class. All others are welcome to join us after the class for our Sunday special: $5 Athenamosas with fresh squeezed grapefruit or orange juice!

Maggie Benoit is an Atlanta based yoga instructor and the Events Manager at the Atlanta Contemporary. Find out more about Movement Love at the Contemporary on their website:

Meet the Artist featuring photographer Holly Roman and surgeon Chip Ogburn:

For the exhibition “organic/mechanic”, local photographer Holly Roman worked with Chip and Kjirsten Ogburn to create a series of cyanotypes (a printing process that creates blue and white images) out of Mr. Ogburn’s surgical x-rays. From 1–4pm, Roman will be demonstrating the cyanotype process on an indoor lightbox (which the artist made herself), and the Ogburns will be available for meet-n-greet.

Holly Roman is a photographer and Chicago transplant, living in Athens for the last three years. Roman wears several hats at local metalworking shop St. Udio, where she provides support in marketing, social media, photography, and more. Check out her photography on her Tumblr archive:
