Evan Blackwell is an Atlanta area native and recent graduate of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. A lifelong artist, Evan’s creative development began its current course after Evan suffered a broken back in college, the result of a serious car crash. This near-death experience instilled in Evan a constant appreciation for the fragility of life. The duality of life and death, the will to survive, and the beauty in chaos have since become major themes of her work.
The works of art presented in the brewery tell a visual story of history, new life, and the creative potential in recovery. The pair of windows at the installation’s center was saved from a decaying, hundred-year-old farmhouse, resonating with the historic integrity of the seventy-year-old building that now houses Creature Comforts. The windows are adorned with flowers that will continue to dry throughout their installation. This aging process represents a transformative survival, a unique beauty where life and death coexist.
