Join us on November 18th as we Kick Off our Get Comfortable program for this winter season as well as send of our amazing friends from the Athens Farmers Market who will be closing out the market for the colder months. Wednesdays are dubbed “community days” here at Creature Comforts. Get Comfortable raises awareness and funds for non-profits that focus on hunger, poverty, and homelessness in Athens, a city where an estimated 1 in 4 children grow up in poverty and is ranked among the highest poverty rates in the US. This special kick off tour will feature live music from Pat Soul and Friends. hot pizzas from the Your Pie mobile truck, and special merchandise for sale.
Get Comfortable will feature one non-profit per month for a total of five: The Sparrow’s Nest, Action Ministries, Athens Community Council on Aging, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, and Athens Land Trust. Every Wednesday for the allotted four weeks the featured non-profit will be hosted by Creature Comforts in conjunction with special onsite events that will include live music, interactive activities to assist the non-profit, and food offerings. There will also be representatives from the non-profits onsite to speak to their respective programs, share volunteer opportunities with guests, and field questions.
Several local partners have come on board to help raise funds including Your Pie, woodworking company Sons of Sawdust, bean-to-bar chocolatier Condor Chocolates, My_Athens, and Community Connection. Your Pie has created a special pizza for their Athens locations that when ordered by guests will be matched and donated to the Get Comfortable campaign. Sons of Sawdust are building and donating special furniture pieces that will be silent auctioned off throughout the season, and 100% of the proceeds from the auctioned furniture will benefit the Get Comfortable fund. My_Athens will be utilizing their social networking power to help promote the campaign and Condor Chocolates has signed on to make a Koko Buni Chocolate bar with 1000 Faces coffee and coconut with a portion of the sales for these going to Get Comfortable.
