CCBC Gallery: Call for Artists!

Calling all artists!

We are working with the Skate Park of Athens to put on a skateboard deck art show for the month of July. SPOA will provide the boards and there are no creative limits to what artists can do with the skateboards– just short of destroying the deck! We will display the boards for the month of July in our CCBC Gallery and will have a special reception & skateboarding event on July 23rd (more details to come).

To register for a deck and pickup, click here.

The goal for the Skate Park Of Athens (SPOA): Phase 2 Expansion Project is to build a street course at the existing location (Southeast Clarke Park). SPOA was built in 2005 with SPLOST funds and a $10,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation, but only half of the original vision was built out. We are currently in the fundraising phase of the project and are reaching out into our flourishing community for all means of reaching our $80,000. To donate, head to their GoFundMe page here.

Calculating Infinity Release

Calculating Infinity Release

We are excited to release our next small batch of innovative beer which was developed by two of our extremely talented brewers, Griffin HansZachary Schroeder

Calculating Infinity is a Crushable Pale Ale (5%ABV) made with Pacificia, Wakatu, and Palisade hops. The name was inspired by an album both brewers listened to growing up.

The beer pours a light, straw gold with a dense white head. A rich aroma of mandarin orange, geranium, and lemongrass greet the nose. The flavor follows suit with creamy kiwi, melon, pineapple, and light lime zest. A crisp bitterness rounds this beer out and packs flavor and aroma into a tidy package worthy of a hot Georgia June.

For the release, we'll of course have some live music to go with this musical themed brew, courtesy of The Buffalo Ruckus!

CCBC GALLERY: Carlee Ingersoll

The Universe Within Us: Illustrations by Carlee Ingersoll

On view in the CCBC Gallery Tuesday, May 30 through Sunday, June 18

Carlee Ingersoll, an Athens-based artist, creates illustrations of creatures formed by complex, interlocking patterns. Concentric circles, dots, and swirls join the inner shapes of the animals, creating the illusion of scales, feathers, or spots.

The title of this solo show, The Universe Within Us, derives from a quote by the contemporary astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson:

“When I look up at the night sky, and I know that, yes, we are part of this Universe, we are in this Universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the Universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up — many people feel small, ’cause they’re small and the Universe is big, but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars.”

–Neil deGrasse Tyson in an interview for TIME Magazine, March 2012

The stars in the sky, the animals on earth, humankind: we are all made of the same stardust, the same molecules that join together to create life. Just as cosmic particles collide to eventually grow into a flower on Earth, the patterns of Ingersoll’s art unite to create an image of a fox, octopus, or snail.

All works on view are for sale, each priced at $40 (some frames included). Please contact the artist with purchase inquiries at carlee.ingersoll@gmail.com or email curious@ccbeerco.com with general inquiries into the CCBC Gallery exhibitions.

No Holds Barred Can Release

We will be releasing our newest small, innovative batch of beer on May 19th at 5pm!

No Holds Barred is a pumped up hoppy blonde ale that pours bright golden like the beautiful mane of Mr. America himself with a light lacing of white foam. The aroma is full of geranium & orange peel and drinks dry with assertive bitterness reminiscent of lemongrass and kaffir lime. Hops lead the charge but are supported by a pleasant cracker like malt backbone and a dry finish. No Holds Barred packs enough flavor for Thunder Lips into a package small enough for mere mortals to imbibe.

Style: American Blonde Ale
ABV: 4.1%
Distro: Brewery only

We're going to do a Tasting with the Brewers on Facebook Live on Friday around 4:30pm, so be sure to tune in for that to ask questions!

CCBC Gallery: Meredith Elder

CCBC Gallery Featured Artist: Meredith Elder

Paintings on view Tuesday, May 9 through Sunday, May 28

This month in the CCBC Gallery, we’re so excited to feature one of our most creative Creature Comforts staff members, Meredith Elder! Meredith, who has worked at the brewery since our second anniversary (April 2016), graduated from the University of Georgia in December with a major in Advertising and a minor in Art. The artist focused on printmaking and graphic design during school and has since developed this new series of cowboy-inspired paintings, on view for the first time here at the brewery.

A comic book-like arrangement of the canvases aids the careful layering of formal elements– color, pattern, and three-dimensional textures– in linking the series together. Each canvas acts as a comic panel, read through the viewer’s stream of consciousness as prompted by the formal elements. By piecing together illustration, pattern, and poetic quips, the artist intends to challenge the boundaries of “fine art”, creating an mixed media installation that is wholly original.

We're thrilled to be able to spotlight the artwork of one of our very own #creaturecrew and we are so grateful to have Meredith on our staff. In addition to working on our tour staff, she also uses her talents to help us with graphic design work here at the brewery. Cheers to this Creature!

Blue Star Release

We are so excited to release our next innovative small batch of beer, Blue Star, next week on May 2nd! Blue Star was inspired by a donut from Blue Star Donuts in Portland, OR. The beer features passion fruit, cocoa nibs from Condor Chocolates, El Dorado & Simcoe hops, and lactose (no actual donuts are in it). The lactose helps round out and smooth the fruit flavor and also mimics the glaze on a donut while the hops create depth and support the fruit flavor. The beer was also kettle soured, which also highlights and balances out the passion fruit. We hope you enjoy this culinary inspired beer as much as we do!

CCBC Gallery: a collaborative installation by Madeline Bates & Jen Holt

CCBC Gallery: a collaborative installation by Madeline Bates & Jen Holt

Brewing great beer is equal parts hard science and thoughtful artistry. Taking inspiration from this concept, local artists Madeline Bates and Jen Holt have created a collaborative installation of photographic prints that blur the line between scientific documentation and organic artistic interpretation of the world.

For this installation, the artists use their traditional photographic methods (silver photograms and cyanotypes) to draw attention to the nature-made foundations of brewing beer. Each artist created one-of-a-kind prints that illustrate the four basic ingredients in all beer: water, malted grain, hops, and yeast. Jen Holt uses an enlarger in her silver photogram process that enables her to capture microscopic close-ups of yeast and hop flowers. Madeline Bates uses the cyanotype process– a kind of print made with exposure to the sun– to render the changes that water and grain undergo throughout the brewing process.

This show highlights Creature Comforts' third anniversary while continuing our annual commitment to feature environmental artwork in honor of Earth Day (4/22).

Triangulation Release Tour

Triangulation Release Tour

We are excited to release Triangulation!

Triangulation is an adaptation and refinement of a beer previously released from our Curious Series of beers, The Curious No. 3. The Curious Series is a limited release series designed to explore new techniques, flavors and ingredients. Triangulation is our first beer from The Curious Series to receive a unique name and be produced on a larger scale.

Like the historical use of triangles to trace a journey from known points, we’re able to trace back the genealogy of this beer to its very beginning. From Reclaimed Rye to See the Stars to The Curious No. 3, the navigation that has lead us to the creation of this beer has been full of discovery, technical lessons, and growth.  The knowledge we have gleaned has culminated here – in Triangulation.

Triangulation is a mixed fermentation ale (8.6%) fermented in third use bourbon barrels with blackberries. The beer is soft, balanced and clean and has a bright acidity in addition to flavors of almond, biscotti, tart cherry and blackberry. The various bright flavors lay on top of a nutty, oak base that brings structure to the flavor while also balancing out the beer’s acidity.

In addition to fermenting in barrels with our house-mixed culture of yeast and bacteria, Triangulation underwent a secondary fermentation with blackberries to complement the flavor. The label artwork for the beer was designed by Athens Artist and Creature Comforts Tour Staff member Melissa Merrill. Melissa derived the watercolor medium for the original artwork from blackberries.

The Triangulation to-go tours will be $15 with one souvenir bottle. Guests can purchase to-go tours that include up to two souvenir bottles of Triangulation for $30. We will also have a special draft list available with our 36oz Tasting Tour for $14. This tour is first come, first serve.

Live music will be provided by local bands BlankoNeighbor Lady. and a special surprise guest performance by DEGA. RSVP here.

Tropicalisima Release
Apr

5:00 pm17:00

Tropicalisima Release

Tropicalisima is a Double IPA brewed with Citra, Centennial, and Galaxy hops (the same as in Tropicalia - just a lot more!). The malt bill is similar to Tropicália and we used the same yeast as in Duende, so the beer has a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a hazy golden orange color. Upon pouring we get floral, honeydew, and orange characters in the aroma. These notes prepare your palate for the orange peel, mango, lemon custard, and grapefruit pith. The lingering bitterness finishes clean in this tropical fruit-forward DIPA.
Come grab a 6pk to go tour as part of our Anniversary week celebration on April 18th. The beer will also be on draft!

Musical guests Whispering Gypsies will be playing a set at 5:30PM. We hope to see you there!
Can artwork by local artist Jerrod Landon Porter.
Eco-Market Tour and Duende Release
Apr

1:00 pm13:00

Eco-Market Tour and Duende Release

We are hosting an Eco-friendly Market tour in conjunction with our release of Duende for our 3 Year Anniversary Week! The goal of this market is to highlight local solutions to modern environmental problems (overproduction, unnecessary discard, toxins
in factory-made products, lack of knowledge of community resources, etc.) while giving guests a fun opportunity to buy great products and sip delicious beer.

There will be approximately ten vendors, each selected and invited because they offer distinct products and unique alternatives to
factory-made products. The vendor list includes:

Community
1000 Faces Coffee
Seed Life Skills
Tiny Yellow Bungalow
Kid's Corner by Treehouse Kid & Craft
Avid Bookshop
Kris Harris
34 Degrees North - Land Art by Chris Taylor
3 Porch Farm
& More!

As a still new brewery, we try to stay as sustainable as possible and lighten our carbon footprint! Among other things, we package our beer in 100-percent recyclable cans, 4,500 gallons per day of cold water is used to chill the wort in the brewhouse and later 100-percent of that water is reused as brewing water, and we are able to keep our water usage to four times our beer output as a result of conservative tank rinsing procedures. We also donate 100% of our spent grain to a local Farmer to use as food for livestock!

This event will also be our re-release of Duende. Duende is a double IPA (8%) and is a hazy marigold in appearance with fluffy white foam. First impressions are a bright almost citrusy pine note that quickly switches gears to fruit notes: orange, grapefruit, and apricot. As the flavor finishes there’s subtle earth and berry notes that come through and the beer finishes with a perfectly balanced bitterness that rounds out the alcohol sweetness and immediately invites you to take another sip.

The beer will be available on draft and there will be 6pk souvenir tours available to go.
